RF Module Placement and Antenna Keep-Out Areas
A radio module is tested as part of a physical system.
A radio module is tested as part of a physical system. Board copper, enclosure material and nearby cables can change antenna behaviour.
Use the exact module guidance
Read the selected module revision and antenna placement requirements. Apply its keep-out rules to the specified layers and surrounding space. Do not transfer dimensions from a visually similar module because antenna construction and reference conditions can differ.
Review the assembled product
Include batteries, mounting brackets, displays and cable bundles in the placement review. An empty PCB test can miss enclosure-related detuning or shadowing. For an external antenna, verify the connector, cable loss, impedance and mounting requirements as a complete chain.
Validate representative orientations
Test communication with the final enclosure at likely installed orientations and distances. Record packet success and operating conditions rather than only one signal-strength reading. Keep the validated antenna configuration in the manufacturing record.
FAQ
Does a certified module guarantee final-product RF performance?
No. Integration and the final physical arrangement still need verification, alongside applicable compliance requirements.
