A compact controller for UART sensor data
Baztech developed a small custom board using the Espressif ESP32-WROOM-32 module. The board can be powered by a battery and reads data from a sensor through UART communication.
The supplied photograph shows the round PCB with its ESP32 module, micro-USB connector and labelled battery and sensor connections. A coin beside the board gives a visual sense of its compact size.
USB-to-UART options and our experience
The design uses a WCH CH340G USB-to-UART bridge. In our development experience, it is an economical option with very good stability. The USB interface and the sensor’s UART connection serve different roles in the board’s integration.
Silicon Labs CP210x USB-to-UART bridges are another option, used with their Virtual COM Port (VCP) drivers for computer communication. We regard CP210x as a premium alternative: in our experience it offers excellent performance and greater stability, with a higher component cost. This comparison reflects our practical experience rather than a published benchmark.
Manufacturer information is available from WCH’s USB interface catalogue and the Silicon Labs CP210x VCP driver page.

For a similar project in Malaysia, share the sensor’s UART interface details, battery requirements, intended enclosure and operating conditions. These help define the custom PCB and firmware scope, along with the USB-to-UART option that suits the application.
Questions about this integration
Which controller does this board use?
It uses an Espressif ESP32-WROOM-32 module on a compact custom PCB.
How does it communicate with the sensor?
The described board reads sensor data through UART communication and supports battery power.
What is the alternative to CH340G?
Silicon Labs CP210x USB-to-UART bridges are an alternative. Baztech’s experience favours their performance and stability, while considering their higher component cost.
